Bailey Sanders had hoped to make her Brakettes debut in 2007. However, an arm injury that required off-season surgery prevented her from playing. She is back this year and as good as new. The 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher completed her sophomore year at UMass with an 11-5 record and 1.90 ERA as she made 22 appearances for the Atlantic-10 Champion Minutewomen. As a freshman, Bailey compiled a 10-4 record and 2.47 ERA. Prior to entering UMass, she was a four-year letter winner for Coach Melanie Joseph at Miss Porters (CT) School and led the team to three league championships and three Western New England titles. She still holds school pitching records for strikeouts in a season (229 as a senior) and career (767), ERA in a season (0.00 in 2006) and career (0.69). When not on the mound, Bailey will see some time at first base. In high school she had a .521 career batting average with 14 home runs, 17 doubles, 15 triples, 101 career hits and 66 RBI. As a senior, Sanders was named a NFCA Northeast Region All-American.
