Last spring Gretchen Bunovsky capped her two-year starting career at Monroe's Masuk High with a second straight state championship. The talented left-fielder played errorless ball afield as the Panthers won 53 of 54 games in 2018 and 2019. She hit .444 with 30 RBI in 2019 and finished her scholastic career with a .439 batting average, 137 hits, 122 runs scored and 34 doubles. Playing 26 games for the Junior Brakettes, which resulted in her promotion this year to the Stratford Brakettes, Gretchen was named to the WMS All-America team. Three days after the season ended, it was off to Yale University for Freshmen Orientation. Yale's season featured only five games and Gretchen started each of them. She was the recipient of the CHSCA Sportsmanship Award, named in memory of the former Brakettes infielder Danni Kemp who died in 2017.
